Recidivism Training

The Long Beach Martin Luther King Center, Inc. is a major partner with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office (“NCDA”):  The NCDA is the Lead Partner on the project. Entering its ninth year, the NCDA Council of Thought and Action (“NCDA COTA”) (Council of Thought and Action) was established to develop, coordinate, fund and aide in the provision of accessible services to indigent communities, with a focus on individuals re-entering the community and those at-risk of entering the criminal justice system due to identifiable criminogenic needs.  NCDA COTA’s mission is to engage and coach individuals, at risk of entering the criminal justice system and those re-entering Nassau County communities post incarceration, to plan, make behavior adjustments, and implement a course of action designed to produce successful outcomes, resulting in reduced recidivism in furtherance of safer communities.

This program facilitated weekly at the MLK Center, began October 2015 and has grown tremendously since its inception.  Participants are from various communities in Nassau County.
